Children's Healthcare launches Forsyth outreach. August 16, 2010
FORSYTH COUNTY – Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization and one of the country's top pediatric health care systems, recently launched two new outreach programs that intend to engage and support the Forsyth community and physicians.
The Children's Community Outreach Program appointed Forsyth County resident Beth Buursema as Community Outreach liaison. Buursema's hire marks the launch of a new community outreach initiative by Children's, which aims to strengthen local community ties.
As community outreach liaison, Buursema will engage a number of local and state officials, business and education leaders, community volunteers and others to identify important issues as they relate to health care, Children's and the Forsyth community. Initially, the program's focus will be directed primarily in the Forsyth County area.
"Beth is invaluable to Children's as we develop a more focused means of community involvement," said David Tatum, chief public policy officer at Children's and Forsyth County resident. "Beth is not only working with leading Forsyth innovators and influencers, she is a resident as well. We're confident, then, that her commitment to this program is unmatched."
Buursema will collaborate with new Physician Outreach liaison and Forsyth County resident, Amanda Lindsay, who is a member of the new Physician Outreach program at Children's. In this role, Lindsay will help create a more consistent experience for community physicians and their staffs, to build and maintain collaborative interactions and open communication. She is the primary contact for physicians, practice managers and staff in and around Forsyth County.
Buursema and Lindsay will both work closely with Linda Cole, vice president of Ambulatory Services at Children's. Cole, who also resides in Forsyth County, is leading the implementation of a new Children's neighborhood location in Cumming. The pediatric outpatient facility will be located in The Avenue Forsyth and offer immediate care, rehabilitation, sports medicine, orthotics, prosthetics and basic radiology services. It is scheduled to open Spring 2011.
"Amanda's relationships and work to support the physician community in and around Forsyth County will help create awareness about our new specialized pediatric services in the area," said Sue Lindstrom, director, Physician Outreach at Children's. "Our ultimate goal is to foster positive relationships between Children's, the medical staff and community physicians."
Buursema comes to Children's with an extensive public relations background. She earned her bachelor's degree in Theatre with a minor in media communications from Presbyterian College. She and her husband, Tim, along with sons Bret, 8, and Porter, 5, are actively involved in their community through the Midway Park Football and Baseball Associations, West Forsyth Youth Travel Football Association, Vickery Creek Elementary PTA, Sawnee Woman's Club, The Place of Forsyth County and Cumming First United Methodist Church.
Lindsay comes to Children's with more than 10 years of experience working with physicians in the community. She earned her bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders and a master's degree in Gerontology from Appalachian State University. She is currently a member of the Leadership Forsyth Class of 2010-2011. She and her husband, Scott, reside in Forsyth County.
